What is facial laser hair removal?
A non-invasive medical procedure that uses carefully calibrated laser energy to damage hair follicles, thus preventing hair from growing.
During the procedure, laser energy is carefully directed at the hair follicles, the melanin within each individual hair light energy, heats up and that heat is passed into the hair bulb, bulge and vascular supply (the structures that actually create hair) damaging these structures and preventing them from growing hair.
When correctly used, the heat generated by the laser damages the hair follicles without harming the surrounding skin. This results in a significant reduction of hair growth in the treated area.

How Exactly Does Facial Laser Hair Removal Work?
Facial laser hair removal works by carefully targeting the pigment (melanin) in each individual hair follicle. The laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the hair pigment, which heats up. This heat radiates out to damage the structures that actually create hair (the hair bulb, bulge and the vascular supply to the hair). Once these structures are damaged to a significant extent, they simply stop producing hair. This normally results in a drastic reduction of hair growth in the treated area.
Before treatment, a medical form will need to be completed (various medications and medical conditions are a barrier to treatment). A consultation and patch test is then essential. One of our highly trained and experienced lasers technicians will assess the patient’s skin and hair to determine the appropriate laser settings and patch test a small area of each face and body area that will be treated. A minimum of 48 hours delay is then required before the first actual treatment.
The number of treatments required to achieve optimal results varies depending on a variety of factors such as the patient’s hair colur and density, age, hormones, genetics and the area being treated. Typically, patients require between six to eight treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart.
Is facial laser hair removal safe?
Facial laser hair removal is a safe and effective procedure when correctly performed by a properly trained and experienced laser technician. We use Soprano Platinum and Titanium lasers which work by gradually increasing heat within the hair follicles, making side effects extremely rare. Some mild redness, swelling or itching are possible after treatment. These side effects are usually temporary and resolve quickly.
It is essential to choose a reputable and qualified clinic for facial laser hair removal to reduce the risk of complications. Patients should also follow the pre and post-treatment instructions provided by the laser technician to ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of side effects.
Laser hair removal on the face, when administered by a fully trained, experienced and reputable provider is a safe and effective way to permanently reduce or eliminate unwanted facial hair.
What areas of the face can be treated?
Laser hair removal is safe to administer to the upper lip, chin, cheeks, jawline, sideburns, nose, ears, between brows and the edges of the forehead.
Eyes must be protected at all times with goggles so it is not possible to treat inside the eye socket and laser hair removal is also not suitable for brow shaping apart from the very outside edges of larger brows and between the brows.
We offer packages for lip and chin, beard and full face which work out better value for money than buying individual areas.

Before and after laser hair removal
Before undergoing a course of laser hair removal, it is essential to know what to expect, how to prepare for the treatment, and the do and don’t after the treatment.
Before the Procedure:
1. Avoid tanning:
It is essential to avoid tanning for at least a week before the Soprano laser hair removal (it can be 4-6 weeks with other types of lasers).
2. Shave the treatment area:
Around 8 hours prior to treatment, it is important to smoothly and thoroughly shave the treatment area. This ensures that the laser can effectively target the hair follicles and not get absorbed by the hair above the skin’s surface. Unshaved or poorly shaved areas will mean a more painful treatment, more chance of side effects and poor hair reduction results. If you fail to shave in preparation, the treatment will not be able to go ahead.
3. Be aware of certain medications:
Medications such as many antibiotics have the potential to make the skin far more sensitive to light and heat which greatly increases the risk of side effects. All medications recently used should be declared on the medical form completed prior to each treatment. many of the stronger anti-acne medications will need to be avoided for a minimum of 6 months prior to any laser treatment.
After the Procedure:
1. Some patients will experience mild redness, itching and/or swelling in the treated area after the procedure. This is a temporary side effect that usually resolves quickly. The use of aloe vera gel is recommended to cool and soothe treated areas.
2. Any treated areas can be more sensitive to the Sun – meaning that you may tan (or burn!) more quickly than normal. A good quality sunscreen of factor 30 or above is recommended for use throughout your course of treatments. Using a facial sunscreen can also be beneficial in avoiding wrinkles, it is a good habit to get into.
3. Patients should avoid activities that may cause the body temperature to rise. Such as: exercise, sun exposure or sauna/steam room, for at least 48 hours after the procedure (a week in the case of sun exposure).
In summary, facial laser hair removal is a safe and effective solution for drastically reducing unwanted facial hair.
