Laser Hair Removal for PCOS
What is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)?
PCOS (Polycistic Ovary Syndrome) is a common condition that affects millions of women across the world. It affects how the ovaries work and typically presents the symptom of excess face and body hair growth.
The 3 most commonly seen features of PCOS are:
- Irregular periods
- Excessive androgen production – high levels of this ‘male’ hormone are linked to increased face and body hair growth
- Enlarged ovaries
If you have at least 2 of these you may be diagnosed with PCOS.
How Can Laser Hair Removal Help Women with PCOS?
Laser hair removal is the best option available for many clients to address the excess hair growth associated with the increased androgen levels caused by PCOS. A course of laser treatments can significantly reduce the amount of hair on both the face and body.
How much is PCOS laser hair removal?
Prices are based on the areas treated and the number of sessions required. You can see our laser hair removal price list by clicking here.
How many laser hair removal sessions will I need for PCOS?
One of the symptoms of PCOS is increased hair growth. The increased levels of androgen (male hormone) can stimulate hair growth on many areas of the face and body and can cause resistance to treatment. We normally recommend a minimum of 8 rather than 6 treatments and then assess results. Top up treatments may be required more often by those experiencing PCOS.
Is laser hair removal for PCOS safe?
Laser hair removal is safe for clients experiencing PCOS. A medical history is taken and a patch test performed prior to treatment. Our highly trained and experienced team are experts in providing laser hair removal for those with PCOS. At Mayfair Aesthetics we are helping many women deal with this condition.
How does Laser Hair Removal fit Into Managing Your PCOS
Laser hair removal will typically take place every 4 weeks for facial treatments and 6 weeks for body treatments. The amount of hair as well as the density and speed of growth of the hair will normally reduce steadily throughout the course of treatments.
Laser Hair Removal vs. Other Methods for PCOS
Waxing, threading, epilation and sugaring can be utilised to temporarily remove hair but will not give the same results in terms of reducing the amount of hair present that can be obtained with laser hair removal.
